World Amateur Chess Championships
The 2015 World Amateur Chess Championships will be held in Porto Carras, Halkidiki, Greece, on the northern coast of the Aegean Sea, from 13-22 April 2015. The games will take place in the conference center of the 5-star Porto Carras Grand Resort, on the Sithonia peninsula of Halkidiki, 100 km south of Thessaloniki airport. Porto Carras is an excellent holiday destination, surrounded by pure natural beauty and sandy beaches on the crystal-clear waters of the Aegean Sea.

1. Invitation

This is the official invitation to all national chess federations of FIDE to participate in the World Amateur Chess Championships Open and Women with a FIDE rating under 2000. The championships will be held in Porto Carras, Halkidiki on the northern coast of the Aegean Sea. The dates are 13 April (arrivals, technical meeting) to 22 April 2015 (departures).

2. Playing Venue

The games will take place in the conference center of the 5-star Porto Carras Grand Resort, on the Sithonia peninsula of Halkidiki, 100 km south of Thessaloniki airport. Porto Carras is an excellent holiday destination, surrounded by pure natural beauty and sandy beaches on the crystal-clear waters of the Aegean Sea.

4. Technical Regulations

4.1. FIDE rated Swiss system in 9 rounds. Entitled to participate are all players from national chess federations who have a FIDE rating below 2000 at the start of the event and have had such a rating for at least 2 years prior to 1 January 2015. They must not hold any title above CM (WCM).

4.2. The top 3 players from each Continental Open Amateur Championship 2014 (if they don't exceed 2000 rating) are qualified (free accommodation, sharing a double room) with personal rights and their places cannot be substituted.

4.3. A separate championship for women shall be organised if there are at least 10 women entries from at least two continents.

4.4. Time limit per player: 90 minutes for 40 moves + 30 min. for the rest of the game + 30’’ increment for every move starting from move one. A player forfeits the game if he hasn't appeared at his board within half an hour after the start of the game.

4.5. Tie break criteria: a) the games between the tied players (only if all tied have played each other), b) the greater number of wins, c) the greater number of games with black (unplayed games count as played with white), d) buchholz cut 1, e) buchholz.

4.6. FIDE Technical officials will be announced later.
Appeals Committee will be elected in the technical meeting.

Each player can take one money prize. In case of a tie, only money prizes are divided equally. Trophies for 1st place, qualifications to Continental Championships and medals will be awarded after applying tie-break criteria.

Cups to the first 3 Open winners and the first 3 women.
Medals and chess gifts to all winners by rating category (U1800, U1600, U1400, U1200).

The 3 top winners of the Men (Open) section and the winner of the Women section will also receive by FIDE their free accommodation and full board in their respective Continental Championships 2016 which are qualifiers for the World Championship Cycle.

6. Titles - Qualifications

6.1. The winner of the Men (Open) section receives the title of ”World Amateur Champion 2015” and title of FIDE Master (FM) and the winner of the Women section receives the title of ”World Women’s Amateur Champion 2015” and the title of Woman FIDE Master (WFM). The silver and bronze medalists receive the title of FIDE Candidate Master (CM) in the Men (Open) section and the title of Woman Candidate master (WCM) in the Women section.

6.2. The 3 top winners of the Men (Open) section and the winner of the Women section will also receive by FIDE their free accommodation and full board in their respective Continental Championships 2016 which are qualifiers for the World Championship Cycle.

7. Accommodation Packages

To be booked and registered only through the Organising Committee (includes accommodation for 9 nights per person in the 5-star Porto Carras Grand Resort, daily full board with breakfast, lunch and dinner, free use of the hotel pools and sun umbrellas at the beach and all fees) :

• 490 euros total per person in a triple room for 9 nights
• 540 euros total per person in a double room for 9 nights
• 760 euros total per person in a single room for 9 nights

The packages includes and the registration fee (40 euros).
Additional nights are possible upon request and in proportional discount.

Every participant and all national delegations have to register through the Organising Committee with the above offers. Registrations, bookings and visa invitations are made only through the Organising Committee. The above offers are guaranteed for registrations and bookings up to 27 February. After the deadline of 27 February, registrations may be offered at an increased cost and only upon availability.

8. FIDE Entry Fee

€30 directly to FIDE Bank account through the National federations (or players)


9. Flights/Transportation

The nearest airport is Thessaloniki (IATA code: SKG), about 100 km north of Porto Carras.
The Organizing Committee can provide bus transportation from Thessaloniki airport to Porto Carras with return for 60 euros per person upon request.

10. Registration Deadline

All entries shall include full name, rating, accommodation type, dates of arrival/departure and receipt of bank transfer. All entries shall be confirmed by the Tournament Director and rooms will be booked after a deposit of 300 euros per person (free of bank charges) by 27 February 2015 to the following bank account:

The receipt of the bank wire transfer must be sent to the Organising Committee by fax or email. The remaining balance shall be paid upon arrival and no later than the start of the 2nd round.
